2026 DMFM Market Cashier

Time Commitment: Part-time Seasonal (<40 hrs/wk)

Farmers Market Every Other Saturday, May 16 - October 31, 8 am - 2 pm

and/or

Night Market Every Wednesday, June 10 - August 26, 3 - 9 pm

Compensation: $15 an hour / paid bi-weekly via direct deposit

Summary

To provide cashiering and on-site support to the Market and Market Manager

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with set up before the start of the market.

  • Provide customer assistance and information about the Downtown Market Farmers Market effectively and courteously.

  • Process all Farmers Market purchase transactions for substitute payment forms and credit card transactions.

  • Maintain control of all market tokens and substitute payment forms.

  • Maintain daily transaction log of all token and credit card transactions.

  • Reconcile daily token and credit card transactions with token and credit card receipts with the daily transaction log.

  • Assist with the breakdown of the Information Booth at the end of the market.

  • Assist the Market Manager when requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of modern office procedures and practices, filing and record-keeping systems, and common clerical procedures.

  • Human relations skills in interacting with the public.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, business owners, and the general public.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of the downtown Marquette environment

  • Knowledge and understanding of promotions, marketing, and events

  • Experience with promotion, marketing, or communication

Physical Demands

  • Lifting 60 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 lbs.

  • Frequent standing and walking.

  • Frequent bending, twisting, and reaching.

  • Occasional squatting and climbing.

  • Ability to communicate orally in a clear manner.

  • Ability to distinguish sounds at various frequencies and volumes.

  • Ability to distinguish people or objects at varied distances under a variety of light conditions.

  • Ability to withstand noise changes in the work environment.

Other Required Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work assignments independently.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail.

Market Set-Up Support

Vendor Support: Help vendors unload and set up booths.

Shopper Assistance

Assist with CSA pick-up: Direct CSA customers to the proper farm stand. Offer to help customers carry CSA items to vehicles.

Assist Customers with Shopping: When customers need help with items as they shop, assist them as you can and carry groceries to their cars.

Be a resource: Answer questions, direct folks accordingly, engage, and have a good time!
